Mommi is a ‘Raw Bar and Grill’ serving Japenese/Peruvian food on Clapham High Street, South West London. Very popular with 20 somethings it is a combination of a restaurant and bar, complete with tasty cocktails and a DJ. We went to give it a go on a friday night, here’s what we thought.
The menu is split into 3 parts (not including nibbles and sides)
1. Raw – dishes such as Ceviche
2. Robata Grill – Salmon, chicken teriyaki
3. Hot Kitchen – Pan fried shrimp, flame seared tuna
The idea is, you pick around 3 dishes, 1 from each section which all arrive at different times. The menu is laid out in a way that makes it very easy to find a meal that suits you, no matter what your eating style. You can choose from a set menu, or just dot around and the entire menu is gluten free. Customisation is not a concern at Mommi as you choose 3 small dishes which suit you. Mommi has vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, high carb, low carb, dairy free, EVERYTHING. The food is absolutely delicious and tastes like nothing else you’ve tried. Often slightly spicy and ‘zingy’ it’s an exciting exerpeicen for the taste buds.
We went for the vegetarian and vegan set menu as my friend, Bunty is vegetarian and I like to eat low carb vegan, including fish if there are. I other options. We really enjoyed the meal, plenty of flavour and really filling. It came to £16 per person, for essentially 3 courses of 2 dishes per course. I recommend booking in advance as it gets super busy and expect a bit of a wait for your table as they do their best to squeeze a lot of people in.
On my next visit I went for the ‘bottomless brunch’. Food is booked in advance and it’s fairly easy to customise your meal – pretty good option if you’re feeling like you want unlimited prosecco for breakfast!
- The taste
- The variety
- It’s a bit different – great for birthdays
- Quite a lot of salt/sugar added (I think)
- Hard to get a table!
We love Mommi – have you been? What did you think?
